The Application Process

Our upcoming Summer Institute will be held on the Illinois State University campus from June 19- July 14, 2016. The Institute will meet Monday through Thursday from 1:00 – 3:50 p.m. We welcome applications from teachers in all grades and content areas. Participants should be available to attend all class meetings.

Interested participants should complete an application that includes the following:

  • cover letter indicating your interest in the Summer Institute and summarizing your teaching experience. Include your address, email, and phone number. Please also indicate in you are currently enrolled in the Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Writing program or an ISU graduate program.
  • If you are not currently enrolled in a graduate certificate or degree program at ISU, include a letter of recommendation from a supervisor.
  • All applicants should include a separate statement that addresses the following prompt:  Describe the role that writing plays in your classroom, including reflection on writing activities or approaches that work for you and/or challenges you face in the teaching of writing.

Your application should be sent to Dr. Jan Neuleib at the postal or electronic address noted below. Preference will be given to applicants who submit materials before April 1. At the time of submission, applicants who wish to receive a full tuition waiver should be enrolled in either a graduate degree program at Illinois State University or the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Writing. Applicants not enrolled in a graduate program or certificate must also submit one letter of recommendation from a professional familiar with their teaching. Non-matriculated students will be charged full tuition. All applicants are responsible for fees and parking expenses.
